Suddenly half way through October. Seriously? So as well as considering our Halloween costumes (no, really.) we can, with some sense of, I was going to say smugness, but more I mean, sensible organization be planning our winter outfits where including something with a velvet touch/feel/highlight will bring whatever else we have up to date.
That said, in my ‘other line of work’ I’ve been including velvet in ranges set to launch in August (of next year). Everything to do with comfort and softness and texture is key; this trend is not going away.
Justified enough? Lets roll..
One of the the first things I think of with velvet, is a velvet jacket or blazer that would immediately party up the simplest of outfits…
Gap Swing Velvet Kimono £79.95
Same jacket styled with a belt. Love this for evening. (though personally, not if a large dinner was planned…)
A Single button Blazer – eternally useful, M&S, £69
A curve ball here, but I loved this from House of Sunny at Asos, £115, longline padded coat with detachable scarf
How about something more casual from & Other Stories £110…?
A short velvet embroidered kimono style jacket from Zara, £89.99, love this blush pink shade…
Multicoloured embroidery from Topshop, long line Kimono £79, this would also be so epic with all black.
Moving on to tops… I love these bodies from H&M, £24.99, in berry
Or in black
Or a Zara version with pearl detail… £29.99
A polka dot blouse from Mango £49.99. The sleeves, oh the sleeves.
Or velvet with rhinestone blouse from Mango again, £49.99
Staying with spots, Fashion Union at Asos, £26. So wrong its right.
There are some amazing party dresses out there already… more will drop over the next few weeks but in the meantime…
Zara £12.99 – if you could, why wouldn’t you? Black below, but also available in green. This dress is very reasonably priced. Very. The model is stunning all which helps. All accessories are of course Zara, but elevate the whole look because they are that bit unexpected perhaps? Those shoes need more investigation… just saying.
From M&S, this sparkle velvet dress, £54. I love the pose and the attitude (less so the shoes, but moving on). Love this colour.
Solid colour again, pale pink from Zara £29.99. (The accessories colour clashes – LOVE)
From Asos – this gorgeous pleated velvet dress, £45.00. Dancing is compulsory.
This is sublime, Zara devore dress £69.99
So if dresses are too much… how about a pleated skirt, they are everywhere this season. Velvet will add that little bit of autumnal/winteryness and ramp up the glam… even if worn with a pair of white trainers. M&S £35.00
From Stradivarius carrot leg trousers £19.99 from Asos (love the terminology, a new high, or a new low?)
And finally cropped trousers from & Other Stories £79… I would like this whole look (bar the sliders) for my next big presentation meeting. Thanks.
There is of course a plethora of velvet accessories available – from clutches to totes, earrings, shoes and boots… oh and the over the knee boots. Splendid – not a hint of Pretty Woman about them. Oh well maybe a tad, but hey.
These will be explored another day and soon… a blog is brewing.
