Hello John Lewis

I love John Lewis as a store to visit, though I’m often torn between the home wear and clothes sections of quite where to go first. On the website clothing wise, I sometimes find the sheer amount of choice overwhelming. There comes a time when you can only filter down so far, if if there are still 482 choices about to be presented to you, well… sometimes I don’t always want that much choice. (I know, never satisfied.)

So today is a look at some of John Lewis’s own brands, partnerships and concessions; I’ve delved in and this is my pick…

In the last few years John Lewis have launched various own brands, And/Or their lifestyle and denim brand was launched last year… it’s chic with a casual bohemian edge – think embroidered tops, drawstring details, worn in denim, and raffia bags… all effortless and timeless.

This And/Or jute bag, £35 was the first thing that caught my eye.

These lace up sandals in this tan suede are beautiful… but jeepers, what age was it that I felt trepidation about a stiletto heel, and thought a block heel might be a better option? Love them though.

And/Or, £99

This navy jumper… And/Or £30, was £65

I definitely need to up grade my sun glasses this year, and actually look after them as opposed to sling them in my bag with careless abandon, tortoiseshell could be the way forward…  And/Or £49

Patternity by John Lewis is a collaboration with ‘Pattern Pioneers Anna Murray and Grace Winteringham, they look to inspire mindful living through design’, the pieces are quite technical, and clean cut. I love the look of this pleated plisse fabric dress, £79.

And worn with the coordinating fabric, the culottes, £69. These look fabulous styled with white trainers, a skinny sock boot could also work really well to balance out the proportions.

Patternity again, £79, I love the abstract print and elbow length sleeves. I’d wear this over black jeans and boots…

This cardigan/coatigan could have many many uses, Patternity £79… I love this whole look of the layered cardigan and cropped trousers, with obligatory breton top….

Websites can feel a little dry sometimes and it can be tricky to get more of a feel for a range if the photography, feels a little staid or, well, stilted; this is when the Look Book images really come in to play to give a setting and a mood… (as opposed to white background front and back product shots).

The Modern Rarity brand within John Lewis, ‘Dedicated to Design, Devoted to Quality, Luxury Redefined’ is a tough one for me… whilst some of the pieces are beautiful – especially the jewellery and accessories; when I was going through the range I struggled to work out who they were targeting the range at, not very much called to me, and I couldn’t see it being right for my mum or her age group either… (When I was trying to find out more about the range, the original press launch images I totally got, for now though not so much…)

This charcoal dress however, is lovely… worn over jeans or slim leg trousers now, or bare legs in the summer. Modern Rarity £80, reduced from £180. Seam detailing, gathered cuffs and pockets…

Moving on, Kin, by John Lewis. Hello, I think we could be great friends.

Do you come in black,? Yes… here. Done.

Also in a top form at £59. Lovely. You’ll be super useful with that drapy, boxy shape of yours.

Boom! Yes this yellow was a surprise for me too… I think this top/blouse/thingy £69, is stunning… not sure about the ironing of it… but to have this and just stand elegantly still…

These little sling back shoes could coordinate with the above top, or… not. Love the two tone colour… £69.

The final, new to me, section is loved&found a mix of new and contemporary brands selected by John Lewis to show case. There are actual concessions in Birmingham. Leeds and Liverpool stores.

Favourites such as Great Plains are now under this umbrella, this white shirt is £65.

Nymph is a brand I’d not heard of before; they have lovely things… and, what I’ve picked isn’t black… crikey.

I love the spring-ish colour and seam detailing of this sweat shirt, Nymph £45, the back hem is slightly dipped too

Nymph Nicole loved&found John Lewis £45

I’d get masses of wear from this too… Nymph, £45

Nymph Branwyn top, loved&found John Lewis £45

Even more blue… this is actually a separate top and trousers – so even more versatile as they can be worn separately or as a jumpsuit-esque look, top £55, bottoms £85 by People Tree.

Finally these earrings by Toolally £35 are gorgeous, available in three colours; so 80’s and just so wrong that they are so right; they’re fabulous.

So whilst I still perhaps haven’t totally mastered the John Lewis website filters, it is going to make me look a little more closely into some of their own brand ranges… and the loved&found. So it’s a Win Win. xx
