A couple of days ago I travelled to the deepest darkest Midlands to go to the office/company that I work for (though I’m usually based at home). I wore a trusty black blazer… it felt OK, but not as comfortable to sit in for 5 hours travel in one day, and it was also almost a bit smart for what I needed.
So if it currently is/isn’t cold enough for a biker/leather jacket at the moment… and if my denim jackets aren’t quite cutting the mustard… and if I’ve seemingly worn and worn my khaki jackets and they are feeling just a bit… worn. What to wear?
You may or may not have noticed the influx of knitwear appearing in adverts and in store. Man alive it’s exciting. We will come back to big knit jumpers shortly, fear not.
But take a look if you will, at the ‘coatigan’ (for the unfamiliar it’s a cross between, yes you’ve guessed it, a coat shape but perhaps in a knitted/cardigan fabrication; it is a slightly more casual item shall we say.)
(But really don’t laugh, in my day job I deal with ‘Loungerie’ – a lingerie and lounge wear casual mix, or ‘brammies’ a cross between a bra and camisole, the list goes on. Yes, please send strength.)
I digress. For Autumn (& Spring), when a full on actual real life coat is too much a coatigan, or just big cardigan could be the ticket.
Carrying on the wine theme from my post the other day, this cable knit escaped that post but is truly delicious.

So what have we learned about big cardigans and coatigans?
Well, I think they are our friends especially before committing to full on coat season.
And the best way to wear them?
With something tailored and sharp, sharp jeans or trousers, perhaps some kick-ass boots too, to really play on the contrasts of scale and texture then it won’t then look like you’re about to settle down for some Netflix action… unless you actually are of course.
So there we go. It’s a wrap. Or, erm, cardigan.
