It’s that time of year again… when we keep getting hints that spring is on it’s way and we may soon be able ditch our big winter coats and it be time for jackets to step up to the mark. Woo hoo.
I wear jeans a lot, but as someone who grew up in the 80’s I’m too scarred by the fashion of the time (and the pre-requisite shaggy perm) to embrace the Canadian Tuxedo look (double blue denim) – though I completely salute anyone that can wear jeans AND a denim shirt or jacket, but it’s not for me. Denim jacket and khaki trousers, or blue jeans and khaki (or other colour) jacket – yes, absolutely.
Khaki is a colour that suits all skin tones and sits beautifully with all colours, from navy, to black, to pale pink, red, mustard… you name it. Depending on the cut and outfit ensemble it can do that beautiful thing of dressing down an outfit and adding an edge, should an edge be required of course…
I’ve got several khaki jackets in my repertoire all different shades and cuts; my go-to one is from Topshop and must be at least 7 years old had served so well, but… but… well, it can’t hurt to look can it?
Here are some current great options.
I love this smarter outfit, then dinged with this oversized jacket with raw edge hem. The Corduroy adds an new slant too.
Zara Oversized Corduroy jacket £29.99

A statement khaki jacket from Boden with embroidery detailing.
Boden Ruby embroidered jacket £120

I’m not really one for branding or logos… but the the stars in this one… I like.
Superdry at Next Khaki Rookie Star Jacket £75

Stripes and a dash of colour from Mint Velvet.
Mint Velvet Khaki Striped 4 pocket Jacket £129

A plain version from Gap (check out newsletters for great discounts), I love the washed and worn in look of this one.
Gap Garment Dyed Utility Jacket £64.95

I’ve got a previous incarnation of this jacket from Hush. A wardrobe staple.
Hush Military Jacket £75

A brighter tone of green and cropped which would look with good and balance with skirts/wide trousers etc. Love this shown here with the paler trousers.
Topshop Khaki Raw Hem Shacket £39

Topshop Oversized Camouflage Shacket £49

Finally, I really like this, a slightly more grown up belted Shacket, lots of possibilities for a more formal look but still with a nod to the utility trend and a hint of Meryl Streep’s, which surely can never be a bad thing.
New Look Khaki Belted Shacket £29.99
