Mums are usually right. Fact. My mum always says that the air is different as of September 1st, there’s an underlying freshness to it.
I love the switch in season. As much as I love when it finally feels that lighter weight clothes and shorter sleeves can be worn come spring & summer, more, I love the switch from summer into autumn.
Like so many, for me, there always feels more excitement or anticipation for the beginning of the academic year, rather than the January New Year where the hangover of festivities can still linger.
September IS about sharpened pencils, crisp white shirts, and new shoes, a new back to school uniform perhaps, even for grown ups.
All of the new season’s arrivals are dropping in store and online; it’s both exciting and almost overwhelming – for this blog post I’m narrowing things down and looking at M&S to stock up and possibly replenish current favourites.
The ever useful khaki jacket? I love the high neck detail of this one.
M&S Field Jacket £39.50

I live much of my life in trainers – if I were to pick new trainers from M&S… I’d go for these.
M&S Lace up trainers – Light As Air £45

The trainers above would look great with denim and this blouse would be pretty fine too.
Ditzy floral popover blouse £15

Hiker boots aren’t going to be going anywhere this autumn winter; I’m already on the look out for a pair that can be worn and worn, these could well be a contender. (Note the burgundy insert on the sole.)
M&S Leather Ankle Hiker Boots £59

Back to school, means new white shirts no? This looks like a fabulous multi-tasker (it’s also available in four colours.)
M&S Linen Pure Linen Utility Shirt £29.50

A 90’s throwback moment. The Bootleg trouser. It looks somehow right again, modern and sleek. Great worn with trainers or a pointy toed something.
M&S High Waisted Flare trousers £35

I think that checked prints are becoming almost a neutral print like leopard, there are so many options out there in differing shade and check sizes.
In the case of checked trousers, whether worn with a top that pulls out one of the colours of the check, a classic white shirt, or even a totally different printed that clashes (as long as the colours within the print are similar to the check colours it can work) – these below could be a great hardworking addition.
I like the cut of these – wider leg, slightly looser, but smart with the pleats.
M&S Wool Blend Checked Wide Leg Trousers £59

Talking of neutral prints… a cross season multi-tasker of a dress if ever I saw one.
M&S Animal Printed relaxed midi dress £49.50

This jumpsuit/boiler suit has had a lot of press, deservedly.
Mr E-E even spotted this one below and Whatapp’d me a photo of it knowing it would be up my street. Super versatile – trainers by day, heeled boots and big earrings by night.
M&S Cotton Blend Utility Waisted Jumpsuit £69

Finally, I know it’s still August, just.
Too early to talk about coats. Way too early.
Despite that, I saw this and had to share. Love it.
M&S Herringbone Cocoon Coat £65

I really not counting the hours until my darlings go Back To School. Honest. But erm, next Thursday morning, 9am. Bring it on.
xx
Just what we need at this time of the year. I’d already spotted the ditzy print blouse and I loved the trainers. Mr E-E has a good eye too x
