I mean, it’s not like I want to dwell or anything on the ‘thing’ that we’ve all been going through for the last four/five/how ever many months. Some of us have carried on regardless with having to turn up to work and keep the world turning (and for that, words can not truly express our thanks), some of us have worked from home, and some of us have been furloughed.
Having not spoken to the company I work for, for a couple of months, I’ve had ‘the conversation’ this week… I really wasn’t sure which way it might go. I’m freelance. I work on a retainer for the company. I don’t live near to the office. I assume nothing. They’ve made me redundant before, so… I have trust issues shall we say.
Thankfully they want me back. Seemingly on the same terms as before. A massive sigh of relief. And with a slight fist pump, they want me to start back at the beginning of September, so hurrah to the summer holidays (with NO HOME SCHOOLING!)
When I do start back I will need to go up to the office and spend some time there to catch up on what has been going on with the accounts I had been working on, find out what’s changed and be briefed on what the team have put together for the AW21 trends. Gawd.
But my mind has also switched to – but what am I going to wear? Standard.
I’m all about the wardrobe staples – pieces that work hard. Dress up/dress down-able, you know the drill. The other day I wore a pair of wide leg cropped trousers, with trainers. I could have gone flip flops/sandals… (I also could go for a pair of slim fitting boots to balance out the wide leg for winter…)
It made me think about our hard working pieces and how they work with each other and how sometimes when something literally wears out – it just has to be replaced with something similar.
It led me to these ideas – starting with some cropped wide leg trousers (with ahem, an elasticated waist – the lockdown has been long.) This is an outfit that could be for work… or drop the jacket and for a Zoom meeting… such fabulous sleeves on the blouse…
