‘Thermals’ not the most gripping or alluring of subjects, but thermals are possibly something we might need to look at more closely, if we are indeed, able to only meet with family, friends and loved ones from a distance… and outside (if we are able/lucky?)
Depending what Tier of Doom you might currently be residing in, you might need to be checking your actual drawers to see what drawers you have already to help keep warm when outside.
If you are left wanting for thermal type layers, the following might be of interest…
When I was growing up my dad worked in a job where he was outside some of the time, he used to get the Damart catalogue delivered; as a girl growing up wanting to work in fashion I remember pouring over it desperate to find something, anything in there that I might possibly like… let alone that I could persuede to be bought for me. Alas, I was always left wanting.
However, I had to have a look at Damart again now for this blogpost, as thermal experts that I recalled of old. Some aspects of design have improved over the last few, ahem, decades… (though be do assured, if floral, thermal, full length housecoats are your jam, they still have them.)
Darmart Thermal Jumper £35 – this goes up to size 26/28

I don’t think one could go wrong with a thermal top or layer in a polka dot.
M&S Heatgen Plus Thermal Turtle Neck Top £15 – available in sizes 6-26.

No one likes a draught…
Next Pink Thermogen Lightweight body £20 – available in sizes 6-20.

Or… available in XS – XXL.
Uniqlo Heattech extra warm ribbed high neck thermal bodysuit £25.99

M&S 2pk Thermal Pointelle Top £19.50 this pack comes with a black and a grey version, as shown below – sizes 6-22.

Staying with M&S…
M&S Heatgen Thermal Built-up Shoulder Vest £7.50

John Lewis and Partners offer thermals with silk. (8/10-16/18)
John Lewis & Partners Silk thermal vest £35

These could go nicely with the vest… (S/M, M/L)
John Lewis & Partners Silk thermal leggings £45

Can a pair of tights get warmer or thicker than these? Possibly?!
John Lewis & Partners 150 denier polar fleece opaque thermal tights £10.50

Socks.
Knee highs are available too… these however…
Uniqlo Women Heattech Over-The-Knee Thermal sock – two pairs £9.90

Jazzy socks… thermal. And not entirely black. Oooh.
Next Thermal Ankle Sock two Pack £9

We will come back, another day, to Smugg, thermal or ‘warm’ lined boots for keeping toes warm if needing to socially distance, from a distance, outside.
In the meantime… perfect for still holding mugs of coffee, or soon for mulled wine (it is slightly too soon for me personally, for considering mulled wine, November is a different story all together).
Wrist warmers… that keep most of your hands/wrist cosy, but allowing for full digit dexterity.
Hush Cashmere Fingerless Gloves £35

Or how about a stripe version?
Etsy Happy Pig Designs Cashmere wristwarmers £17.50

As we’ve discussed before… no one likes a draught. Arket has some particularly interesting accessories this autumn which I really love – how about this neck/vesty oojamaflip?
Arket Cashmere Roll Neck Rib £59

Or… not quite a balaclava but… a slip on, draught excluding hood?
Arket Alpaca Fitted Hoodie £45

Finally, if all else fails and outside is the only option to see/look at our nearest and dearest family… wrapping oneself up in one of these fellas could be the only option.
It would also make a most excellent cape.
Uniqlo Heattech Thermak blanket – double, £49.90

Keep warm, stay apart, but together, at work, but staying at home, travel if you have to, but don’t if you can’t or shouldn’t or can? All clear?
